Veterinary Medicine (VM), as a function of Comparative Medicine (CM), provides high quality veterinary care to laboratory animals enrolled in studies within 14 disease area teams within NIBR. VM is looking for the ideal candidate to fill a veterinary technical position responsible for maintaining the health and welfare of laboratory animals and supporting research by triaging emergencies, treating common clinical conditions in laboratory animals, and recognizing study-related clinical trends. This position will closely collaborate with the CM organization and NIBR disease area teams within our multi-building, multi-discipline, multi-species research program.

This position will be located at Cambridge and will not have the ability to be located remotely.

About the Role

Key Responsibilities:

  • Primary responsibility for daily campus veterinary rounds
  • Hands-on veterinary care and providing support/treatments (i.e., rounds, rechecks, health assessments, execution of treatment plans, etc.) under direction of senior VM associates and/or veterinarian(s).
  • Routinely responsible for ensuring compliance with all institutional and regulatory protocols, policies, and guidelines.
  • Routinely responsible for assisting with the veterinary program requirements.
  • Responsible for pursuing continuous learning/professional development opportunities and enhancing/expanding skill set as time allows.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as may be required.

Role Requirements:

Shift will be either Sunday – Thursday or Tuesday – Saturday (determined based on business needs)

  • 4-year degree in related field or 2 -year degree in Veterinary Sciences with CVT and experience in related field
  • ALAT, LAT, LATG Certification preferred.
  • Excellent basic mathematics and compound dose/volume administration calculation skills.
  • Superior written and oral communication and data documentation skills required.
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local laws pertaining to maintenance of research animals in a laboratory environment, the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, departmental SOP’s, institutional policies, and Good Laboratory Practices.
  • Thorough understanding and comprehension of operational facts, techniques, nomenclature, equipment, theories, etc. as they relate specifically to job performance function in the laboratory animal research environment.
  • Availability for weekend, holiday, and inclement weather coverage required.

The salary for this position is expected to range between $73,500-$136,500/year.

The final salary offered is determined based on factors like, but not limited to, relevant skills and experience, and upon joining Novartis will be reviewed periodically. Novartis may change the published salary range based on company and market factors.

Your compensation will include a performance-based cash incentive and, depending on the level of the role, eligibility to be considered for annual equity awards.
